NORTH EAST SPORTSMENS CLUB
MAY 2010 NEWSLETTER
Reminder that our next membership meeting is Wednesday May 5th 7:00 p.m
A note from our Club President
Greetings, spring is finally here and activity is on the rise around the club.
The Erie-Crawford County Trap League begins the first of May and the team is hard at practice. As always we are looking for new members, especially juniors, so come up Wednesday’s after 5:00pm, meet the people and “take a shot” at it. There will plenty of free advice on guns, ammo, and how to shoot trap.
The rifle and pistol ranges are looking better than ever, but with all of the above there is one thing missing - new faces. Many of the readers of this newsletter have rarely or never attended a monthly meeting. We thank you for your dedicated membership over the years but would like to meet some of you face to face and get your involvement. The meeting is always the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm.
In my years of traveling worldwide and especially in the US and Canada, I have come to realize how lucky we are as shooters and sports people to have a facility like ours. Land, club house, and ranges are just a few to mention. As time goes on things will get tighter within our sport. Let’s help support it so we don’t lose this valuable “gem” we have.

New easy to remember Web site: http://www.nesmc.com
Check out our new shorter and easier to remember Web address at http://www.nesmc.com
(North East Sports Men’s Club) The site has a lot of great information and news about the club. If you have a friend that may be interested in joining, pass it on. Special thanks to Walt Poniatowski for setting up and maintaining the site.
Reminder to comply with range rules:
Our range rules are posted at the entrance gate, shooting ranges and our web site. As much as we want members to enjoy our ranges, we are concerned that some shooters are not following two key rules:
Paper Targets only! No glass or plastic targets (i.e. empty containers).
Clean up targets and firing line area when done shooting and place waste in the proper containers.
Open Trap shooting every Monday and Wednesday evening
Looking to add some fun to your week! If you would like to try trap shooting or just want to sharpen your shot gun shooting skills, plan to join us any Monday or Wednesday evening anytime between 5:30 p.m. until dark. Don’t feel intimidated if you have never done this as there are experienced shooters willing to help you out. All you need is a shot gun (If you don’t have one, our friendly members will let you borrow one of theirs) ear plugs, protective glasses and a box or two of low base shells.
Cost of the clays is $3.00 per round.
Erie Crawford Trap League starting May 6th.
If you have the trap shooting bug and want to be a member of our club team to shoot in the Erie / Crawford league, stop out any Monday or Wednesday during the open trap shoot or call Jim Courtwright at 725-2133. You don’t have to be an experienced shooter to shoot in the league as there are several classes from beginner to expert. For information on the schedule see the link at our web site or the league web site at http://users.edinboro.edu/pyrdek/league.htm
Proposed revisions to club By Laws to change elections from November to September
In four of the past six elections we have had difficulty obtaining the required 20 member quorum at the November Annual meeting to be able to complete elections according to club By-Laws. The Board Of Directors has reviewed this and has proposed revising the By-Laws to change the elections to September which is historically has a much higher member attendance. The By-law changes will be reviewed at the May 5th membership meeting and posted at the club house for 30 days and then voted on at the June 2nd meeting. Overview of the proposed changes includes:
Article V
Section 5 – Change nominations to August
Section 10 – Change percent of Board of Director’s approval from 75% to 70% (total Board = 10)
Section 12 – Change Director required attendance from 75% to 70 (10 annual meetings)
Article VI
Section 1 – Change Elections from November to September
Article VIII
Section 1 – Change Annual meeting from November to September
Section 2 – Add language to postpone elections to the following month or thereafter if a quorum of 20 is not present.
